Was Camp a Good Choice

Once my oldest started school I already stress on what we would do during the summer. Her dad and I worked full-time jobs and taking two months off were impossible. Her first two years in preschool we had her in her previous daycare for the summer. When she entered kindergarten we found out her Afterschool program had a summer camp. She didn't like it and the kids spent most of their time inside a semi-hot gym. I couldn't do that to her again. I wanted her to enjoy her summer and go have fun. The next summer she stayed with her little sibling's daycare, that summer she had fun going to the park enjoying trips to the library and arts and crafts almost every day. This summer I decided since she was already too big to spend her time with little ones she deserved to spend her summer out in the open enjoying time with kids her own age.

Summer camp was on the agenda for her this summer. Her first couple weeks she said she wasn't having fun and was kinda bored. Asking her to give it some time was all I could say. So many parents had let me know they loved it. I didn't want her to have a sucky summer, being that I already paid for it. Within a couple of weeks later she was so excited she was shooting bow and arrows, rock climbing, cup fishing, and riding horses. Everyday was something new, I was so excited for parents day. Her dad went the first time, he told me it was unorganized and didn't have such a great time. I was a nervous reck, it was soon to be my turn in a couple weeks

THe morning arrived and I was taking B with me since this would be the camp she would be going next summer as well. Everything went smoothly and when we arrived at this beautiful camp grounds I was excited to see the space and the echoing noise of children laughing in the bushes. Once her group came back from instructions swim, B ran up to her big sister and gave her a big hug. I was amazed at how the camp councilors were kind of young but how patient they were with a group of about 10 younger girls.

I joined in a game of kickball, which landed me right on my butt, due to wet grass from the rain the night before. All in good fun, other parents in the group joined and played with the kids, making sure sure to let the other kids who's parent didn't come feel left out. We saw them go boating enjoy lunch together and watched the kids enjoy time in the pool. As the kids got ready for their next activity it was time for parents to go.  We said our "see you laters" and went home.

B was so excited that she wouln't stop talking about the following summer. She wanted to  do all the things her big sister had done that day. Me being over protective of them I was a nervouse wreck inside. All I could do was smile and think of how big my girls have gotten. I am happy I made the choice of putting her camp and can't wait to hear what else this summer has to bring.
